From public register data to a clearer company report

How Check Company UK Works

Check Company UK helps you search public UK company information without having to work through raw Companies House data yourself. You search for a company or director, we request the relevant public records, and the result is organised into a simpler report.

Four Steps From Search to Company Report

01

You Enter a Company Name or Number

Start with the registered company name or Companies House number. Using the company number is the most precise way to identify a legal entity.

02

We Query Companies House

The request is sent server-to-server to the Companies House public data API. Check Company UK does not maintain its own master copy of the UK companies register.

03

Relevant Public Data Is Collected

Depending on the company record, the report can request profile, officer, PSC, filing, charges and insolvency information available through the API.

04

The Information Is Organised

Raw register fields are presented in a more readable report so you can review the company status, registration details and other available public information in one place.

Where Does the Information Come From?

Company information displayed by Check Company UK is sourced from public Companies House data. Companies House is the registrar of companies in the United Kingdom and makes public company information available through its services and API.

Check Company UK is an independent service. It is not Companies House, is not operated by the UK Government and does not alter the underlying Companies House record.

For a more detailed explanation of the individual data sources used by the site, see our Data Sources page.

What the Company Report Can Include

The precise information available depends on the company and what is present in the public record. The current report can combine several categories of Companies House data.

Profile

Company Details

Company name, company number, company type, incorporation date, registered office and other profile information.

Status

Company Status

The statutory company status recorded in the Companies House profile, such as active or dissolved.

Officers

Directors & Officers

Public company officer appointments, including roles, appointment dates and resignation dates where available.

Control

Persons with Significant Control

PSC information returned for the company where persons with significant control are registered and available.

Filings

Recent Filing History

Recent Companies House filing-history records that help provide context around company submissions and events.

Risk context

Charges & Insolvency

Recorded charges and Companies House insolvency information are requested where the company profile indicates that relevant data exists.

Director Search Uses a Separate Lookup Flow

Search by person

Find an Officer Without Knowing the Company

The Director Search lets you enter an officer's name, choose a matching Companies House officer record and then review the company appointments associated with that record.

Privacy minimisation

Only Professional Appointment Data Is Displayed

The Director Search is designed to minimise personal data. It focuses on the officer name, appointment count, company, company number, company status, role and appointment or resignation dates.

What Check Company UK Does Not Do

Check Company UK does not certify that a company is safe, trustworthy, solvent or suitable to do business with. Public company data is useful evidence, but it should not be treated as a complete due-diligence decision on its own.

The service does not change or verify information filed at Companies House. It presents public register information in a clearer format and highlights relevant fields available from the source.

Dynamic search results and company reports are not intended to become standalone search-engine profile pages; they are kept outside the site's indexable SEO architecture.

If a decision has significant legal, financial or credit consequences, consider appropriate professional advice and additional verification sources.
